It has been too long since last post.

I'm waiting for the new years eve so i can make a promise to post more stuff in my blog.

A lot has happened past few months. Now it really looks like I'm finally graduating, only some paperwork left. I've been even more busy with this: www.animaboutique.fi. Check out our website. And I just moved to Helsinki. I'll try to find more time for blogging from now on.

sketches

I'm graduating somewhere around December, so I'm a bit busy with that. Here's some random sketches from my sketchbook and hard drive.

time-lapse painting

This is a time lapse video from last weekend. The big picture lost everything I liked about in the sketch. I had to memorize the sketch because I had it only on my hard drive. But at least the painting was fun to do. My younger sister helped me. Kiitos Iida!

childhood photos

I found some childhood photos. The best moment captured was propably me opening the package of my first He-man masters of the universe figure. I can't believe I've managed to lost that one. But another photo was as reference when doing this.

bringing back more old characters

this is a quickly made model of a character I've posted some time before. It's about 15cm tall.

I've posted these clowns quite a long time ago, now I made some new studies of the characters for my animation classes. I thought they had something worth developing.

it's been a while

I haven't been posting much lately. It's because I've been doing other stuff. I can't believe how hard it is to create anything if you haven't been drawing for a while. Would a cat feel bad eating a catfish?

Scribbles with Cintiq. The girl in the picture was supposed to be a "caricature" of my sister. To be honest you couldn't recognize her from this, I just wanted to test if I could do any Photoshop painting. It's not looking good. As you can see it's not even nearly finished piece so all pointers and tips using color and Photoshop are welcome. Maybe I'll finish it someday... or I'll stick to burning wood ;)

I've been out of town for the last couple of days. I'm embarrassed to tell that I forgot my sketchbook to city. So here's what I burned with aid of magnifying glass and sun on a piece of wood. I did plenty of these but most of them were just rubbish.

It's so nice weather outside so I can't stay in. I was going to clean this up this morning, but it'll have to wait. I'm not much of a poker player, but I enjoy watching it every once in a while. I was drawing caricatures of pro poker players one day and yesterday I decided to try quick animating too. Image is a snapshot how it could look when cleaned up.

quickies, rotoscope test

Here's some sketches and a rotoscoping test. Rotoscoping was done with pencil and paper. video was projected to a seetrough plastic piece via projector. Original video is from gettyimages.com. This was just a fun test if a video projector can display small enough screen for rotoscoping.

30 second poses

These are all 30 sec poses shrinked to fit the page. they're all done in 800x800 pixels with Cintiq. The poses are from here Pose Maniacs. And I did all them in a row, no pauses nor erasing nor deleting the bad ones. It is actually quite fun even though these cg models don't carry their weight like a real model would.

Fishing hook and machete.

The guy with the machete is for my friends short novel. Actually it's just a test to find the right style. The other picture one is a illustration of an accident from my fathers childhood.

keeping the same theme. I'm just a bit busy right now. so my run cycle for the monkey has to wait. Here's a quickie/warm up that's done while waiting for feedback from client.

Here's that gorillas (or monkeys, what ever) run cycle. It still needs some work. File has both rough and cleaned up versions. I need to add some inbetweens and make some fixes to the keys too. By the way, this is done just for fun :)

I'm planning one project of my own. I'm just afraid I have no time for it now. This could be one character in it, but I'm not too happy with the style yet. It kinda lacks something. nothing new in it I guess. But here it is anyway.

it's been more than a year now since my last live model drawing classes. I started again 2 weeks ago. Once a week. These are both carbon on A1 sized paper. We're doing after 2 weeks some croquis drawing, can't wait...

It's been a while since I've tried to do caricatures. I didn't remember it was this hard. These are all done with Cintiq. Approximately 10-15 minute each. Can you recognize them?

waitin' for snow

I can't remember winter like the one we're having now in Finland. No snow, just raining all the time. I'm waiting for a nice little snow storm as you can see in my Photoshop drawing here.

Back in school, drawing classes start next week, can't wait.
