Merry Christmas!

Pick up your red-cyan 3D-glasses! I found out that it is actually really easy and fun to make these anaglyphic images. I tried to find colors that wouldn't change too much when viewed with 3D glasses, so the whole scheme ended up a bit dirty. Thank you Florian Satzinger for the inspiration. Christmas to every one, and by the way it's "Hyvää Joulua!" in Finnish.

Ella ja Aleksi

This is probably the first time I'm posting something else than sketches or unfinished personal projects. This music video is something we did in our studio Anima Boutique. The video was produced by the Bronson Club, designs are by Eliza and Antero. Please go and visit Elizas blog for more artwork. The whole thing was mainly animated in After Effects (bits here and there in Flash and TVP Animation). I did some of the animating and storyboarding.

Try to enjoy it even if you can't understand Finnish.

Christmas card from last year

I'll try to find some time to do a new one before this Christmas.
Meanwhile "Hyvää joulun odotusta!"

i got tagged

... I got tagged by Andrew, and so here we go.

Tag rules:

- You must link to the individual who tagged you and post the rules of TAG.
- Post 7 random facts about you
- Tag 7 bloggers and link to them
- Let them know that they have been tagged by leaving a message

7 random facts about me:
-I think know that canned tuna is cat food. And for cats only.
-I own 7 Flogging Molly band shirts
-I like sitting on the floor (rather than sofa) when I watch TV
-I often do my shopping subconsciously.
-I hate board games, in which you have to act, sing or perform in any way, even drawing.
-I lied my birth date in facebook
-I pay monthly to use public transports, yet I walk 40 minutes to work and back every day, taking the same route as the tram.

And the lucky bloggers getting tagged are co-workers and persons commenting my latest post:
Eliza Jäppinen
Teemu Jäppinen
Mel Milton
Ken Chandler
Andry Rajoelina
Matias
Matthieu Forichon

and then some sketches, the first one was for a game concept, the second was drawn while watching nature documentary.

sketch post

I'll try once again to be more active with posting in my blog. It's sometimes just hard to find the energy after a days work.

Here's some picks from my sketchbook and random sheets of paper. I'm trying to do more sketching with pencil and paper, markers, and other more traditional drawing methods. Cintiq is a great tool, and I couldn't do my job without it, but it's nice to try doing something without it. And I actually find my left hand looking for "undo" every once in a while after a horribly drawn line. I try not to use eraser either. I hope that helps to realize how much there is to learn. And possibly over time I get more confident lines.

I'm the laziest blogger around...
I saw the movie Control couple of weeks ago. It was great. Here's a sketch of Ian Curtis.

sketching, lipsyncing

I visited Manchester couple of weeks ago. The whole weekend was brilliant. Thanks! These sketches are from Manchester Piccadilly station. I was waiting for a friend for about 45 mins and luckily I had my sketchbook with me. It was really nice, drinking beer, sketching and watching people coming and going. (all size A4, 2-3 sketches per page, fiber-tip pen, 4 pints of lager ;) )

I have to say that I like large sketchbooks more, I bought this Moleskin sketchbook. It is nice and tiny, but I really don't feel comfortable drawing that small. Here's couple of sketches from that sketchbook too.

Here's a short lipsync test I did using TVPaint. I want to use them cowboy characters in something.

Amusement Park in Berlin

We went to Berlin last November to visit Pictoplasma animation festival. I was walking around the city in the evening and saw this closed amusement park. It was nearly a full moon so the lighting was incredible. It's a pitty that I didn't have tripod with me. But you can feel the mood in this blurry photo. I didn't bother to adjust colors afterwards, I just added this little monkey character in TVPaint. I hope you like it.
